What Can I expect

Adoption Procedures and Expectations

We only consider your home for adoption after we receive an application.

Step one: The Application

Once we receive an application we review it to see if the particular dog(s) might be a good fit for your home/lifestyle and that you meet the required needs of the dog.  We require a veterinary reference, if you do not currently have a vet please include any vet your family has used and include the family name the account would be under.
Please let the vet know we will be calling.

Step Two: The Interview

Someone will be calling to chat with you to get an idea of your family life, lifestyle and dog of choice. This gives us a great insight to see if the dog you have chosen is the correct fit, or if not we can discuss other options that may be better suited for your lifestyle.

Step Three: The Meet and Greet

It is expected that you will go to the fosters home and bring other animals if you have them to meet the dog correctly and see how it goes. Meet and greets can take from 30-90 minutes.  At this meet and greet we can test many important factors.

  • Interactions with you
  • Interactions with your children,
  • Interactions with your other animals.
  • As well we can accurately judge if there is any unforeseen allergies that may come into play when you are in contact with the new furry friend.

Even at this time you are NOT guaranteed the dog. Once all of these steps have been carefully analyzed before a decision will be made as to who is the best fit for a specific dog.

Step Four: Home check

Once you have been through this initial screening we then set up a home visit to ensure that the home is a safe home.   We also want to ensure that the home is set up for the same energy levels or medical needs they may or may not have (dog that can’t climb stairs, or not enough room to walk, etc.)
If you do not live locally we have other options available for this step.

Then we proceed to check veterinary reference.  This is to ensure that pets you have or have had in the past were cared for, and up to date with necessary medical care.
